For Interior Editions, we carefully and meticulously created a gift model to commemorate the rebranding of the iconic Kontiki Beach Resort in Curaçao. Interior Editions was instrumental in developing the resort’s renewed concept and interior design and wanted to bring this unique project to life in the form of an exclusive model. The theme chosen was the Cabana beach club: a recognizable and beloved element of the resort, where beach, design, and experience converge.
The model was designed as a visual and material interpretation of the renewed concept. The focus is not only on the architecture and furnishings, but especially on the atmosphere that characterizes Cabana: relaxed luxury, a tropical setting, and a strong connection to the beach and the sea. The goal was to capture this experience to scale, with an eye for detail, use of materials, and color.
To achieve this, various techniques were combined. The base of the model is cast epoxy resin, a material ideal for creating flowing forms and a high-quality finish. The beach was recreated using epoxy resin, with texture and subtle color variations creating a realistic look. By playing with transparency and layering, a natural-looking landscape is created that immediately evokes sun, sea, and sand.
In addition to the casting process, FDM 3D printing with PLA was used. This technique allowed for the extremely accurate production of complex and repeatable elements. Think of the new sunbeds, parasols, and other signature objects that are part of the revamped Interior Editions design. Each element was carefully modeled and printed, ensuring that the proportions and details are true to the original.
A key aspect of this model is the color consistency. All components are made in the same colors as the actual beach club. This enhances its recognizability and ensures that the model is not just an abstract scale model, but a true-to-life miniature version of Cabana. The colors seamlessly align with the rebranding: tranquil, natural, and refined, with a clear tropical signature.
The palm trees also play a vital role in the model’s experience. They connect the beach with the buildings and enhance the feeling of a tropical setting. The combination of 3D printing techniques and manual finishing gives the palm trees an organic character that perfectly complements the rest of the model.
The combination of cast epoxy resin and FDM printing results in a rich and layered final result. The different techniques reinforce each other and demonstrate how digital fabrication and artisanal finishing can go hand in hand. The model is therefore not only a representation of a physical location but also a demonstration of the manufacturing process, material control, and design vision.
As a gift model for Interior Editions, this object serves as a lasting reminder of a successful rebranding and a special collaboration. The model tells the story of Kontiki Beach Resort, Cabana, and Interior Editions at a glance and demonstrates how design, technology, and ambiance converge in a carefully crafted scale model.
