For our clients, BPD and Van Wijnen, we proudly created a series of ten detailed models of the new De Bund development in Rotterdam. These miniatures not only provide a tangible representation of the design but also serve as a symbolic gift to the municipality of Rotterdam, as a token of appreciation for the collaboration on this unique urban residential project.

De Bund is a contemporary residential building characterized by its refined architecture and strong connection to the surrounding area. The project symbolizes the ongoing renewal of Rotterdam’s waterfront – a city constantly building for its future. To capture this vision in a tangible form, we opted for a refined combination of 3D printing techniques and traditional craftsmanship.

Each model is 3D printed with the utmost precision using PLA, a sustainable and biodegradable material based on cornstarch. This choice of material underscores the focus on sustainability, which is also central to the design and realization of De Bund. The prints were meticulously crafted with an eye for detail, accurately representing the building’s characteristic façade structure, volumetric flow, and proportions to scale.

The models are mounted on an elegant oak plinth, custom-made specifically for this project. The warm, natural character of the oak creates a beautiful contrast with the modern, sleek white of the printed model. Each plinth is engraved with the name of the project, the parties involved, and the location. This subtle yet refined finish gives the model a prestigious appearance and makes it suitable as a lasting gift or presentation piece.

The process, from design to completion, took place in close collaboration with BPD and Van Wijnen. Based on De Bund’s architectural drawings and 3D models, we carefully translated the digital file into a printable version that performs optimally both aesthetically and structurally at a small scale. The models were then carefully post-processed, cleaned, and finished before being mounted on their wooden plinths. The end result is a series of ten identical models, each capturing the essence of De Bund: contemporary, sustainable, and carefully designed. They serve not only as a representative gift to the municipality of Rotterdam, but also as a tangible reminder of the intensive collaboration between developer, builder, and city.

With this series of miniatures, we demonstrate how modern digital techniques and traditional craftsmanship can reinforce each other. The De Bund project reflects our passion for precision, design, and meaningful presentation—where every detail matters.
